Always Thankful

This time of year, we pause and reflect on all of our many blessings.  We have so many reasons to be thankful.  Why are you thankful?

Reader Response

Josie could not wait for Halloween.  She had waited for more than two months since she first saw that costume hanging in the dress-up section of her favorite store.  She knew her mom would never let her spend that much money on a costume, but Josie was determined to dress like that for Halloween.  She was tired of being just a black cat or a ghost made from a sheet.  This year, she was going to have the best costume of all!

Describe Josie's costume and how she made it.

A Little Something New

Instead of my normal homeroom of second or third graders, I will be serving MBES as a support teacher.  This means you may see me all around the school!  I am so excited about teaching lots of math and reading this year and working with the BIG kids at MBES.

Second Grade Shops

We ended our economics unit with a culminating activity we termed "Second Grade Shops."  Students had to open a shop for their peers.  They learned about being producers and consumers as well as all about economic choices that had to be made.  Some of the most popular shops in all of the classrooms involved food and paint!

Everything Is Awesome!

We did it big this time...a trip to LegoLand!  Although Atlanta traffic tried to scare us away with two road mishaps between the time we planned the trip and our arrival date, we made it safely and were only a few minutes after our estimated arrival time.  We rotated through seven different areas while we were there and were awed by each one.  I think all the students left thinking, "Whoa.  I want to come back here!"  We didn't get to see if all so it's worth a trip back.

Greenhouse Construction

We got to watch a partner in education construct a greenhouse.  A few of us even got to be hands on.  Do you know how many steps were involved?  A whole afternoon's worth of steps!

Growing

We are growing and changing and so are these beautiful daffodils in our reading garden.  Now if we can just get our vegetable seeds to start growing too.  Grow little, baby seeds grow!

All You Need Is LOVE

We have loved on each other this week as we celebrated Valentine's Day.  This time of year with my students I really have developed a deep, deep love for them.  It's amazing how much we have learned about each other and how much we have helped each other to grow.

Greenhouse Go!

All year our long second grade has been gearing up for our greenhouse construction. Each class is planning a different type of greenhouse.  As part of our STEAM studies, we are the grade level responsible for constructing greenhouses at our school.  Each grade level has a specific goal to help support our schoolwide goal of sustainability.

We had partners from Lowe’s come  to help us with a plan for our greenhouse. Construction is coming soon.

A Magical Time of Year

From our 12 Days Countdown, to our special readers, to the school-wide singalong and class party, the end of December was extra special for all of us.  We have finished the first half of second grade and are ready to tackle the second half.  Let's be all we can be!

Field Trip!

We got to leave campus and check out the Botanical Gardens.  Man are their greenhouses huge and high-tech!
