I sure hope we can continue our read-aloud during our digital learning days. I'm feeling like I'm in a recording studio as I record each chapter while reading aloud. (Picture me sitting in my rocking chair at home with my best furry friend, Pearl, right beside me. She's enjoying this book right along with you! It's her first time hearing it too.)
Since we've been in the habit of coming up with chapter titles after we read a chapter, let's continue to do that. In the comments, you post a good name for each chapter you listen to. For example: We said Chapter 4 could be titled "10 Things about Me."
I can't wait for you to hear the rest of this story! There's a reason it's my all-time favorite!

4th Grade Read Aloud Discussion of The One and Only Ivan
During our "Starbooks Poetry Slam" a few weeks ago, we read the picture book that told of Ivan's background. Here's the link to the read-aloud of the picture book if you want to hear it again. The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla.
Now we are jumping into the chapter book. The chapters are not like a regular chapter book as they are written more like poems - in the thoughts and observations of a gorilla. Some chapters are very short and will only take a few minutes to listen to. Others are more like the length of a normal chapter book.
What are your first impressions of the book?

This time of year, we pause and reflect on all of our many blessings. We have so many reasons to be thankful. Why are you thankful?

Reader Response
Josie could not wait for Halloween. She had waited for more than two months since she first saw that costume hanging in the dress-up section of her favorite store. She knew her mom would never let her spend that much money on a costume, but Josie was determined to dress like that for Halloween. She was tired of being just a black cat or a ghost made from a sheet. This year, she was going to have the best costume of all!
Describe Josie's costume and how she made it.

A Little Something New
Instead of my normal homeroom of second or third graders, I will be serving MBES as a support teacher. This means you may see me all around the school! I am so excited about teaching lots of math and reading this year and working with the BIG kids at MBES.
